Nicky Hunter is a professional Watercolourist well known for her expressive contemporary floral artworks and other subjects that are inspired by the natural world.

Watercolour is the perfect medium to create paintings that are ignited by colour and light. Nicky’s paintings juxtapose soft edges with lively, direct brush strokes; with her confident application of colour and emphasis on well-designed compositions she creates bold and beautiful watercolours with the ‘wow’ factor.

Nicky is a regular and very popular tutor in our Big Sky Art team. Join her in in the bright spacious studio on her residential workshop at The White House, in peaceful, rural surroundings in fabulous north-west Norfolk, when she will inspire you to create vibrant paintings of such appealing subjects as a fiery fox, bright birds and of course her signature flamboyant flowers. Her excellent demos and individual support will help you towards a better understanding of shape, composition, tone, colour and transparency.

Nicky will show how confident brushwork is the way to achieve lively watercolours and help you to overcome any struggles you may have with keeping your paintings fresh and loose. Her students report immediate improvement in their artwork at the end of this energising and exciting course.

Nicky is a very popular and well-established tutor with a loyal following at her studio in Buckinghamshire. Her excellent reputation grows nationally as she hosts many painting workshops at art schools and art societies all around the UK. Her life as an artist began 30 years ago when she studied Art and Design, followed by a degree in pattern design. A successful and award-winning career in textiles included creating fabric designs for top brands and fashion houses. Additional fine art training completed a full circle for her as she now commits fully to her life-long passion for the magical medium of watercolour.

Her work is exhibited in Buckinghamshire galleries and has been selected and exhibited in 2023 in The Gallery Holt alongside some of the UKs most renowned artists.
