Light and Atmosphere – Painting Norfolk in Oils
Graham Webber ROI is an award-winning British oil painter known for his atmospheric landscapes and coastal scenes inspired by his native East Anglia. Working both plein air and in the studio, Graham captures the spirit of place through expressive brushwork, a limited palette and an intuitive sense of light and space.
An elected member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, Graham’s work is widely collected and regularly exhibited with leading galleries. His paintings convey more than a literal view - they are an invitation to view the environment through the lens of memory, mood and atmosphere.
Graham paints with a limited palette of three primary colours and white, which lends harmony and cohesion across his work. Whether painting sweeping skies over the landscape, tidal creeks of the Norfolk coast, or sunlit harbour scenes, he balances accuracy with abstraction - always seeking to evoke rather than describe.
His dedication to traditional oil painting methods, coupled with a contemporary approach to simplification and mark-making, has earned him multiple awards and a place in Who’s Who in Art. A book on his work is published by the Adrian Hill Fine Art Gallery, reflecting his growing influence within the British landscape tradition.
In addition to painting, Graham is a passionate educator. He runs workshops, art society demonstrations and painting retreats where he shares practical insights into brush control, colour mixing, tone and composition. His regular contributions to The Artist magazine demonstrate a thoughtful, generous approach to teaching and artistic growth. Join Graham Webber for his first oil painting course at BSA exploring the expansive skies and unique character of the North Norfolk landscape and coast. Working both en plein air and in the studio, this course focuses on capturing light, atmosphere and a true sense of place.
