Oils and Acrylics
Monday 29th October - Thursday 1st November
Melanie Cambridge has been a full-time artist for the past 30 years. In addition to painting for galleries and commissions, she tutors and demonstrates at painting workshops and Art breaks around the UK as well as being a regular tutor at the Marlborough Summer School. She loves to impart knowledge and skills to others, and has written four Art instruction books to date (published by Collins). Colour is the key to her work and her teaching, and she has developed her own range of artist oils and gouache, made exclusively for her by a major UK manufacturer and all available for use on her courses.
She has painted in oils and acrylics for most of her career, taking inspiration directly from the coast and landscape which has always been at the very heart of her work. Melanie’s aim is always to capture the essence of a location rather than every detail – she loves the fleeting effects of light, especially where it sparkles on water. She often works from her boat during the summer months, travelling to the coast whenever she can – even in winter when the light is softer, casting longer shadows.
I love painting “alla prima”, which is the most direct and simplest approach to painting with oils. During the course, I will show you how flexible this medium is, how you can loosen up your brushwork and learn to paint quickly, blocking in colour with confidence to complete a painting in one session.
My tuition will cover the key skills you need to loosen up and create lively paintings. There will be full demonstrations, structured lessons on mixing colours, tone and composition alongside quick exercises to get your brushes moving!
I have my own range of artist oil colours which are included in the course, so there is no need to purchase any paints in advance. You are welcome to work in acrylics if you prefer but would need to bring along your own paints.
I am very much looking forward to my course at Big Sky Art in North Norfolk, the perfect coastal landscape which I hope you will find as inspiring as I do. Please come and join me, and if you have any questions before deciding whether to come along, do send me an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call me on 07970 432348
